In 1939 women comprised 15% of student architects but within two years of qualification only 3% remained in practice. The RIBA Kalendar for 1936/7 includes only two female architects in Lancashire, Miss Edith Elspeth Hansford ARIBA 43 Anson Road Victoria Park and Miss K R H Berwick ARIBA Liverpool.

Mrs Fane, of whom nothing else is yet known, was therefore a rarity, being both in practice and married.
