Percy Tindell Maybury was born in Moss Side Manchester in 1886, the second son of James Henry Maybury and attended the Victoria University of Manchester where he was awarded the degree of Batchelor of Technical Science in 1907. He is assumed to have been subsequently employed in his father’s office (1911 - architectural assistant) before serving in World War One as 2nd Lieutenant Royal Garrison Artillery 103 Siege Battery. He remained with the Royal Garrison Artillery Special Reserve after the war with the rank of Major. A staunch Freemason, he was Worshipful Master Manchester Engineers Lodge No 4082.

In 1919 he entered into partnership with his father under the style J H Maybury and Son and continued under the same name following his father’s death in 1926. The firm continued for at least five years after Percy Tindell’s own death in 1932, although the names of the then partners are not known.
