The son of the Oldham architect Henry Winder and brother of Arthur Mayall Winder. Attended Manchester University School of Architecture where he was awarded an MA. Student RIBA 1920. ARIBA 1921. After qualification he obtained a teaching post at the School of Architecture, Cardiff, later moving to Leeds Technical College.
