Samuel Joseph Mould was born in Salford, the son of the Rev John Mould, Primitive Methodist Minister and Sarah Diggle and was the brother of James Diggle Mould.  He was probably articled to J D Mould, twelve years his senior, and continued as his assistant. About 1898 he joined into partnership with his brother J D Mould, being joined by A Porritt, in 1900 practising as architects in Manchester, Bury and London and remained in London after the partnership was dissolved in 1907.  He served in the Royal Engineers during the First Wold War, rising to the rank of Captain.

Samuel Joseph Mould died on, died 21 September 1923 at the German Hospital, Dalston Lane, Hackney, Middlesex and was survived by his widow, Susanna.
