Thomas Denville Barry

The son of David Barry, Thomas Denville Barry was born in 1815 or 1816 in Ireland and was a pupil of H Prosser. Barry established a significant reputation as a designer of cemetery buildings in the north west of England with designs for Toxteth in Liverpool (1856), Anfield also in Liverpool, Preston and St Helens in the later 1850s. He commenced practice about 1845 and was in partnership with John Murray in the early 1850s and was Engineer to the Board of Health and Waterworks, Leamington in 1868. In the 1870s Barry was in partnership with his sons under the style T D Barry and Sons. President Liverpool Architectural Society in 1873-1874. He retired about 1895. For many years he was a churchwarden of St. Michael’s-in-the-Hamlet, and he was the founder and one of the chief supporters of the Ellen Cliff Home for Girls
He died on 4 March 1905. And was buried in Toxteth Cemetery
