William Hall Casson, the son of William and Hannah Casson, was born in Salford in 1796. He was briefly in partnership with Thomas Wright as architect and surveyor in 1829, subsequently establishing himself as a slate merchant and the Old Quay Slate Wharf, Water Street. By 1851 he was seemingly wealthy enough to retire, being described as a proprietor of houses in the census returns for 1851 and 1861.

He appears to have married twice, although no record of his first marriage to Harriet Nixon has been found. However, the christening of their son, William Casson Casson, at the Collegiate Church (Cathedral) in 1834 is recorded. William Hall Casson died on 27 January 1867 at his residence, 2 Ford Terrace, Lower Broughton.
