At the junction of Piccadilly and Oldham‑street, and occupying the site of several shops which were in a dilapidated condition, and as a result were pulled down recently, has been erected a substantial and handsome structure. The building which stands on an area of 420 square yards is of a Gothic character, consists of five storeys, the ground floor being arranged for shops with a spacious central entrance in Piccadilly giving access to the whole of the upper rooms. The architects are Messrs Royle and Bennett, and the contractor is Mr Southern. [Manchester City News. Saturday 29 November 1879 Page 3].
