Designed in the Decorated style the school originally comprised a one storey building of rectangular plan with three bays to the east front. It was constructed of purple-red brick in header bond with ashlar buff sandstone dressings, Welsh slate roof and a brick chimney. A small bellcote was placed on the apex of the gable. Central lower porch with a chamfered triangular headed entrance and a board door with ornate strap hinges behind. The principal rooms are open to the roof and have trusses of jointed crucks with a collar and king post.
