KEARSLEY MOOR PARISH SCHOOLS.—These schools, originally built sortie fifteen years ago in accordance with the now somewhat antiquated rules of the Committee of Council, have recently been enlarged and improved at a cost about £1,500, in accordance with modern requirements. In enlarging and re-arranging the school, its primary purpose—that of elementary day school —has been first of all kept view. It has also been made thoroughly convenient, secondarily, as a parish Sunday-school, for lectures, concerts, tea parties, etc. A reading-room and library have also been provided. A considerable item in the outlay has been, apart from actual enlargement, this adaptation the buildings to their threefold purposes, the rules the Committee Council having been, as is so well known, expressly framed so as to prevent the schools which they aided by their grants being used for other purposes than elementary day schools. The alterations consist mainly in the addition of large infants' school, 50 feet and 28 feet wide, and the formation of additional class-rooms. The cheerfulness of this infants' school-room, with its large windows and ample light, contrasts strongly with the somewhat gloomy appearance of the old mixed school, but this will be set right by the additional means of lighting which are being now introduced. New lavatories and latrines have provided for the old mixed school, at considerable expense, the former arrangements being entirely inadequate. The builder is Mr. T. Darnbrough, of Rusholme, and the architects Messrs. Medland and Henry Taylor, of Manchester. [Manchester Courier 12 December 1877 page 7]
