The building was opened in 1912 as an Art and Technical College for the Borough of Morecambe, later housing the Grammar School, and then providing accommodation for Lancaster & Morecambe College. Built in a Neo-Classical style, materials used include Cinnabar Red Accrington brick, cream ashlar sandstone and Cumbrian slate for the roof. A weather vane sits on top of a Tuscan-influenced cupola with domed lead roof.
