Arthur Herbert House Hale
This house was erected for Mr. Arthur Herbert from designs by Mr. Frank B. Dunkerley FRIBA, of Manchester. It is quite plain, and there are no special internal features worth mentioning. The accommodation provided, however, was very low for the cost only about £1,100. The house has a southerly aspect, and is built of brick. The facings are 2-inch sand-lime bricks with white mortar joints, the upper portion being tile-hung and the roofs also covered with tiles. Mr. Peter Simpson, of Hale Barn, was the builder. Grates and mantels were supplied by Messrs. Waring & Gillow, Ltd., of Manchester. [Recent English Domestic Architecture (3) 1910, page 77]
