BRADFORD - In a recent competition for new Baptist Sunday Schools at Girlington, Bradford, the design "Knowledge is Power," submitted by Messrs. Potts, Pickup, and Dixon, architects, of Oldham, was selected by the committee. The site, which lies between Washington-street and St. Leonard' s-road, adjoins the present chapel, the principal entrances being from Washington— street. The new buildings will be faced with clean-cut wall stones, with ashlar dressings of local stone, and comprise a large schoolroom, with light balcony, to accommodate 780 persons, and 25 classrooms round same, infants' school for 150 infants, library, a teachers' reading-room, and a lecture hall to accommodate 150. In the basement a gymnasium is provided, with store-rooms and heating cellar; also a kitchen for school use. The whole of the interior wood- work will be of pitch-pine, and the building will be heated by hot water. The cost will be about £3,000. [Building News 17 May 1889 page 684]
