Blackford Bridge Recreation Ground for Col John Barlow
The Barlow Recreation Ground at Blackpool (Blackford) Bridge, Bury, Lancs, is about to be laid out from plans by Mr. J. D. Mould, architect, of Bury and Manchester. [Building News 17 June 1898 p851]
A Recreation Ground for the Blackford Bridge District was laid out and handed over to the Corporation by the late Colonel John Chadwick Barlow, of Wellfield, Bury, in 1899, the gift being augmented and further embellished by the trustees of Colonel Barlow's estate in May, 1927. Colonel John Barlow J.P was the son of Abraham Barlow, bleacher and dyer of Bury and lived at "Wellfield" on Manchester Road Bury. Colonel Barlow also donated the fountain in Kay Gardens.
