NEW BOARD SCHOOLS IN DUCIE AVENUE. On Monday afternoon Mr E J Broadfield laid the foundation stone of a new school which is in course of erection by the Manchester School Board in Ducie Avenue, Greenheys. The school will accommodate 900 children in four departments, viz, boys, girls, juniors, and infants. The building will be two storeys high, and are constructed of brick and stone, with Gothic details. Two classrooms will be provided for each department, and especial attention has been paid to the necessary sanitary requirements. The cost of the building, exclusive of the cost of the land will be about £7,000, and it is expected that they will be completed about September next. The architect is Mr J W Beaumont of this city and the contractor is Mr George Napier, of City Road, Manchester. [Manchester Guardian 7 April 1880 page 3]

BOARD SCHOOL, GREENHEYS - The schools erected by the Manchester School Board in Ducie Avenue, Chorlton-on-Medlock, were opened on Tuesday evening by the chairman of the Board, Mr Herbert Birley.. ...... The schools are situated at the corner of Ducie Avenue and Burleigh-street. The building is spacious and substantial and the front elevations are of good design. Accommodation is provided for 900 children, 231 boys, 240 girls, 190 juniors and 230 infants. The ground floor is given to the juniors and infants and upper floor to the girls and boys. Two large playgrounds are provided. The total cost of the building, apart from the site, has been about £6,750 and the work has been carried out by Mr George Napier, contractor, from the plans and under the superintendence of Mr J W Beaumont, architect, Manchester.
