ROCHDALE - A new Board School in Penn Streeet was formally opened on Monday. It has cost over £4,000 and accommodates 288 scholars and occupies the site of the former county police parade ground. It consists of a central hall and five classrooms, all on one floor. A teachers= room is provided on the second floor and it is the only apartment reached by a flight of stairs. Outside there are two playgrounds. The closet accommodation is on the water carriage system with automatic flushing arrangements. The school was built by Messes Enderby and Mutch from plans prepared by Messrs Smith and Cross. [Building News 7 February 1902 Page 216]
