ROCHDALE SCHOOL BOARD - A limited competition has just been held for a board school to accommodate 400 scholars at a cost of £3,600. The following sent in plans - Henry Littler of Manchester; Jesse Horsfall, M.S.A., of Rochdale and Todmorden; and Messrs. Butterworth and Duncan of 4 South Parade, Rochdale. At the meeting of the board, held last Monday, it was unanimously resolved that the plans sent in by Messrs Butterworth and Duncan of 4, South Parade, under the motto "Utility," be adopted, and that they be instructed to proceed with the work after submitting the plans

ROCHDALE - The opening of the new school erected in Vavasour-street took place on Monday week. The building comprises two large schoolrooms and four classrooms, and at the back are two playgrounds. Accommodation is provided for 430 scholars. The floors are laid with wood blocks supplied by Messrs. Geary and Walker, of Manchester. The cost of the site, together with that of erecting and furnishing the building, will be about £4,400. The architects (whose plans were selected in competition are Messrs. and Duncan, South Parade, and the builders Messrs. Peters and Son Rochdale. [Building News - Friday 26 November 1886 page 822]
