BUXTON - New schools are being erected for the Derbyshire Education Committee on a site situated between the London and North‑Western Railway's line from Buxton to Ashbourne and Kent Bank‑road. The accommodation is for 700 boys, the existing schools being kept entirely for girls and infants. There are eight classrooms, two cloakrooms, with teacher's room above, a large central hall, with the long side treated with French casement windows.  The whole of the classrooms and corridors have a cream glazed brick dado finished with an apple‑green skirting and capping. The central hall facing north has a golden ‑ brown dado finished with apple‑green glazed brick. The walls are faced with Hayfield stone rippings, and the roofs are at present being covered with a Bangor sea‑green 14 in.by 7 in. slate. The outbuildings consist of the latrines and two covered playgrounds. The general play‑grounds will be tar‑paved. The heating is on the hot‑water (low ‑ pressure) system and natural ventilation. The floors are laid with maple boards nailed to coke breeze concrete. The contractors for the whole of the works are Messrs. R. Weston and Sons, of Derby. Mr. J. H. Hare is the clerk of the works. The buildings have been designed by Mr. Charles Swain, of Buxton and Manchester, and carried out under his supervision. [Building News 26 October 1906 Page 599]
