A United Methodist Free Church was first established on Leigh Road, Hindley Green, in 1855. Known as the Brunswick Methodist Church, with Day School and Sunday School it was built on a site to the east of Leigh Road at Slack Fold. In 1906 a new red brick church (Brunswick) was erected on a vacant site opposite, with the Sunday School and Day School remaining across the road. Following its demolition in 1977 this church was replaced on the same site with a new building named Hindley Green Methodist Church, uniting the former Brunswick and Bethel Methodist Churches. Hindley Green Methodist Church was dedicated on the 7 January 1978.
