A house was built on the Bryn y Neuadd estate at of Llanfairfechan in 1667 for the Roberts family. After John Platt bought the 130 acre estate for his summer residence the original house was demolished and in 1862 a mansion was built by John Platt to the designs of Peter Alley. In 1898 St. Andrews Hospital, Northampton, bought Bryn y Neuadd to provide care for people for what they called “lunatics and idiots.” In 1967 the mansion was demolished and a long stay hospital was constructed on the site.

IMPROVEMENT OF A GENTLEMAN's ESTATE AT BRYNYNEUADD - The estate of John Platt, Esq., at Brynyneuadd, Carnarvonshire, has just been greatly improved, under the superintendence of Mr Peter B. Alley, architect of Manchester; Mr. E. Milner, landscape architect; and Mr. Llewelyn Lewis, for the agricultural part. A pretty park has been formed. A house of Gothic design, built of native stone, with dressings of Anglesey limestone, has been built; and plans are being prepared by Mr. Alley, for an extension of the stabling. Mr. Weeks, of Chelsea, has supplied the horticultural houses, etc. [Building News 24 February 1865 page 146]
