BURY CO-OPREATIVE SOCIETY - Early in the year 1866, a body of members hailing from Walshaw, asked for the consideration of their case, and in February the Committee decided to establish a branch Grocery Store in that district.  This shop, taken for 21 years from Mr. George Leigh, was opened in April, 1866; and in October, 1877, a Butchers’ shop was opened, business being transacted in these rented premises until January, 1892, when the present range of shops were built, Mr. Thomas Wilde being the Architect.
