In reporting progress in rebuilding Colwyn station, it was noted that “The new carriage stand is much appreciated by the cabmen and a better order than hitherto prevails. It would be still a greater improvement if the authorities could provide a hut for the drivers and some cover for the horses such as exists at Rhyl and other places. About twelve months ago a cabman approached Mr T. E. Purdy, and stated that they could do with a shelter. Mr Purdy, with his usual generosity, said that they should have one. He quickly got to work to put into execution his offer. The London and North- Western Railway Company granted a site on certain conditions. Plans were kindly prepared by Messrs Porter and Elcock free of cost. Mr Purdy then applied to three firms of builders for tenders. The lowest of these (Mr Lloyd Jones, Sea View) was accepted. With regard to the cost, Mr Purdy made himself responsible to the contractor, without asking any friends to join because of the urgency of the need. Since. building operations were commenced, however, several others have come forward and have shown themselves wishful of assisting in the movement. ….

The shelter itself is a neat and commodious structure, and is situated on the left, as the station yard is entered. Accommodation has been made for about sixteen men, forms, and tables having been provided. The floor will be covered with linoleum, and everything possible provided to make the shelter comfortable. Each member will pay a monthly subscription of 5d. [Welsh Coast Pioneer 2 April 1908 page 7]
