NEW CATHOLIC SCHOOLS - The new Catholic schools in Talbot Road have been opened this week and the building is very complete in the interior and very imposing in its exterior. The front elevation is after the late Gothic style of architecture and is built of stone. The entrance is porched with a carved gable and a massive door, which has oak finishings. The main feature is a large gable artistically carved which bears the name and date of the schools. The mixed schools is upstairs and the other classes are provided for on the ground floor, every requirement of the Education Department having been carefully provided for by the architect, Mr. R. B. Mather. The school is heated by hot water pipes, and the lighting is either by gas or electricity. The walls are faced with enamelled brick. Ceilings have been worked after a very artistic manner with pitch-pine panels and moulded cornice. Furnishings are up-to-date, and in fact everything has been done in the provision of equipment to bring the school up to the modern standard. [Preston Herald 18 March 1899 page 2]
