THE NEW CEMETERY AT POULTON – The Bishop of Manchester yesterday consecrated the Church of England portion of the new cemetery which has been provided by the Burial Board at Poulton-le-Fylde. The cemetery contains one chapel only, to be used by all denominations. This is Gothic in style, of early character, and has a tower entrance and a mortuary separated from the chapel by a pitch pine screen filled with lead lights. The materials are red stock bricks with stone dressings, the internal woodwork being of pitch pine. The ground is laid out in rectangles, with a carriageway from the entrance gate extending round the chapel, which is placed in the centre of the ground. The lodge provides accommodation for the sexton and has a registrar’s office adjoining. Mr F E L Edwards of Manchester is the architect. [Manchester Guardian 20 November 1884 page 6]
