The new Central Carnegie Library at Stockport, built at a cost of £15,000, has just been opened. In the lending library the open access system has been adopted. and there is room for 40,000 volumes. The general reading room has stands for 30 newspapers, and tables and seating for about 100 readers. The reference library has shelving space for 6, 000 volumes, and seating accommodation for 40 readers. In addition,  there are children's reading  room (capable of seating 120 children), a ladies' reading room, a magazine  room, and two lecture halls. The architects are Messrs Bradshaw and Gass of Bolton, whose design, selected in competition, was illustrated and described in our issues of October 28 and December 9, 1910.
