LEIGH DESIGN WINS OPEN COMPETITION - Designs for central swimming-baths capable of conversion into a public hall accommodating 5,000 people -were placed before the Leeds Corporation Baths and Property Committee yesterday. The building and the site of 7,000 square yards at the junction of Eastgate and New York Road will cost £130,000. In an open competition, for which designs were submitted by architects in many parts of the country, the first prize of £350 was awarded to Messrs, J. C.  Prestwich and Sone, of Leigh. Their design provides for two swimming pools, galleries for 2,000 spectators, Russian and Slipper baths, a café and buffet, car and cycle parks, and sun-bathing terraces on the roof of the entrance-hall. Subject to the approval of the city council, the work will be begun shortly. When completed the building will house not only the biggest swimming-pool but the largest public hall in the city.
