RYDAL CHURCH, WESTMORELAND - The new chancel to this church was consecrated on Friday last by the Bishop of Carlisle. The chancel, which is of the Perpendicular style, is built of the slate-stone of the district with freestone dressings. The seats, communion- rail, etc., are constructed of the best Stettin oak. The floor is laid with Minton's tiles, the gift of Sir L. Stamer. The side windows are glazed with plain cathedral glass by Messrs. Shrigley and Hunt; the east window, the gift of Miss Le Fleming, has been executed by Messrs. Ward and Hughes, the subject being  "The Ascension." The mason work has been executed by Messrs. Hawkrigg and Jackson, of Ambleside; and the seats, etc., to chancel by Mr. W. Stalker; the roof and other woodwork, including some alterations to nave, by Mr. W. Dixon, of the same place. The work has been executed from the designs and under the superintendence of Mr. Robert Walker, architect, Windermere. This is the church where Wordsworth worshipped, his residence, Rydal Mount, being close by. [Building News 25 September 1885 page 487]
