ALTRINCHAM - The Altrincham local board recently invited several architects to submit designs in limited competition for their new cemetery chapel, etc., to be erected at Hale, near Altrincham, Cheshire. In response to this invitation four sets of designs were sent in, and the one submitted by Mr. Wm. Owen, A.R.I.B.A., 134. Deansgate, Manchester, under the motto, “Registrar,” has been selected, and he has been instructed to prepare the necessary details and quantities and obtain estimates for same, and the work is to be carried out forthwith under his supervision. CEMETERY CHAPEL, ALTRINCHAM - The foundation-stone of the cemetery chapel at Hale, Altrincham, where the Altrincham Local Board are expending nearly £10,000, was laid on the 18th inst. by Mr. Alderman Griffin. The chapel is being erected from the designs of Mr. W. Owen, ARIBA of Manchester. Mr. John Matthews, of Nantwich, being the principal contractor. The new building, which will be entirely faced with stone, is in the Decorated Gothic style, and will comprise chancel, nave, large mortuary, vestries, &c. [Builder 28 April 1894 page 334]

CEMETERY, ALTRINCHAM - The new cemetery at Altrincham was opened and dedicated to the public on the 21st ult., by Alderman Griffin, J.P., Mayor of Altrincham. The work has been carried out at a cost of £9,000. The chapel, of fourteenth-century Gothic style, is faced with Halifax stone, and provides sitting accommodation for seventy people, besides mortuary, vestry. etc. The works have been carried out from the designs and under the superintendence of Mr. Wm. Owen, architect, of Manchester. Mr. John Matthews, of Nantwich, was the principal contractor, and the other contractors were:  Heating, Mr. James Smith, Altrincham; mosaic floor, &c., Messrs. J. & H. Patteson, Manchester; stained glass, Mr. James Jones, Manchester; entrance gates, etc., Messrs Cunliffe & Dean, Manchester; boundary-wall, Mr. J. H. Holt, Altrincham.
