This monument commemorates Charles Robinson of Micklegate, York, a pharmacist who died on 28 March 1847 and who is buried near the Minster. The limestone is unlike anything found locally and has been identified by local stonemasons as being quarried at Caen in northern France. It has weathered very badly and now lacks its upper stage - removed since photo. Replacement slate plaque reads:
CHARLES ROBINSON
Died 28 March 1847 aged 44
Erected by the friends who admired his active benevolence, strict integrity and public usefulness.
