Chaucer Primary Schools Milton Street Fleetwood

A new School Board for the Township of Fleetwood was created in 1895. The School Board purchased the site from the Fleetwood Estate Company in February 1901 for £2000. It had previously been occupied by a rope walk and fields. Tom Lumb, was commissioned to design a school with separate technical block to accommodate 750 children aged between 10 and 14. William Townson & Sons Limited of Bolton were subsequently appointed as main contractors. The foundation stone was laid in April 1902 and the school opened a year later, completed at a cost of £12,700 including furniture and equipment.
