Builders and others who may wish to contract for the several works in the erection of a new CHURCH at Barton-upon-Irwell, in the Parish of Eccles may see the drawings and specification at the offices of Mr George Marsden, 6 St James’s Square, Manchester, any day after Saturday 20 May instant; all tenders are to be left in Mr Marsden’s office on or before 4 June. Any information on the subject may be procured from Mr Welch, architect, 7 Castle Street, Liverpool. [Manchester Guardian 14 May 1842 page 1]

Now demolished with only the extensive grave-yard remaining. In 1969, Pevsner provided the following description: Red stone, weathered. Lancets, buttresses and pinnacles. West tower deprived of its spire. The interior has only one gallery. The big roof timbers are oddly unorthodox, with their imitation Jacobean pendants. The chancel, deliberately in keeping with the church was added by Preston in 1893. [Pevsner South Lancashire page 259]
