Church of St George: Heap Bridge, Bury
HEAP-BRIDGE CHURCH (NEAR HEYWOOD, LANCASHIRE) - The designs for this church submitted in a limited competition by Mr. John Lowe, architect, Manchester, have been selected by the committee, involving an outlay of about £2,000. At a meeting of the Surveyor’s Committee of the Hewyood Corporation on Monday plans for a new church at Heap Bridge in the Borough of Heywood were submitted by the Rev Alfred Redman, vicar of St James, and were passed. It is proposed to erect the church on a site given by the earl of Derby, which is adjacent to the present school-room. The cost of the proposed church bis estimated at about £2,000, and the greater part of this amount has been subscribed. [Manchester Guardian 29 April 1891 page 6]
On Saturday Mr C Coupe of Heywood laid the foundation stone of a new church at Heap Bridge, in the parish of St James Heywood. The church, which is to cost £2,000 with accommodation for between 300 and 400 persons. Mr John Lowe of Manchester is the architect. [Manchester Guardian 15 June 1891 page 6]
