                    Plans prepared in 1858 and construction began in May 1859. The church was consecrated on
MANCHESTER - St. Mary’s Church, Lowton Common, has been consecrated by the Bishop of Chester. The want of a church having been much felt, Miss Leigh, of Hale, gave £1,000 towards a building and endowment fund, and Mr W J Legh, MP., and Mr T Brideoak, gave the land. The church cost about £2,000. Mr. E. G. Paley, of Lancaster, was the architect, and Mr. J. Fairclough,of Wigan, was the builder. [Builder 7 December 1861 Page 849]
