BAGILLT - The Committee for carrying into effect the building of the new Chapel at Bagillt hereby give notice that they will receive for selection plans and specifications of the new Chapel, which is to contain 700 persons, and the estimate not to exceed £1000. Plans etc. to be sent free of expense addressed to The Rev. Morris Williams, Curate of Holywell, on or before November 4th, 1836.” [Chester Courant Tuesday 11 October 1836 page 2]

The beautifully designed new chapel at Bagillt is being actively carried on under the superintendence of the clever architect Mr. Welch. The structure is now carried higher than the doorways, and when completed will be highly ornamental to the neighbourhood. [North Wales Chronicle 7 November 1837 page 3]

Contracts were let on March 10th, 1837, and on March 29th, 1837, the Rev. Thomas Pennant laid the foundation stone, the church henceforth to be known as St. Mary’s.  The consecration took place on Thursday, 18th July 1839. The service was conducted by the Rt. Rev. William Carey, D.D., Lord Bishop of St. Asaph.
