GOATHLAND CHURCH -This is a simple little moorland church, now in course of erection, to replace a barn-like building of 50 years ago. It will accommodate 180 people at a cost of about £1,800. The walls are built of local gritstone, and the roofs will be covered with Bradford stone slabs, and the windows glazed with clear sanded sheet glass. - Walter H Brierley. GOATHLAND CHURCH, YORKSHIRE - This church was built seventeen years ago to replace a plain barn-like erection, dated 1821, and is on the moors about twelve miles from Whitby. It accommodates 200 worshippers and cost £2,200, including seats, etc. Grit stone from local quarries was used for the walls, and also for the roof covering, and local men 1 executed the whole of the work. The qualities of simplicity, breadth, and sturdiness were felt to be especially required for such a bleak moorland situation, and were aimed at in the design.
