In 1905 the Waddington and Dunkerley partnership designed a tower and new entrance porch to this church which had been built between 1877 and 1879 by Waddington's father. The partnership between Waddington and Dunkerley ceased in January 1906, and Waddington continued with the project alone until his death in January 1907.  Because of dwindling congregations, the last service was held in the church in August 1987, following which the building was sold to a private developer. In 2000, it was acquired by the Heritage Trust for the North West. After substantial structural repairs, it became a showroom for conservation, energy efficiency and sustainability, and it currently retains this function. [RF]

ST MARY'S CHURCH, NELSON - The chancel and five bays of the nave of this church were erected about 25 years ago and it is now proposed to complete the structure by the erection of a tower and spire as here illustrated as well as the remaining bay and porch at a cost of some £6,000.
