The designs of Mr H C Charlewood, architect, of this city, have been accepted for the proposed new church, St Michael’s Bamford, near Rochdale. The style will be early English of the transition period, the structure consisting of a nave and chancel, provision being made for the erection hereafter of north and south transepts, and commodious vestries for clergy and choir. The cost of the proposed building will be about £3,000, provision being made for 500 sittings. The site has been secured, and operations for erecting the church will commence forthwith. ST MICHAEL’S CHURCH BAMFORD - This church, which will be consecrated today by the Bishop of Manchester may be said to be in the early English style, although some of the detail is rather suggestive of the work of a later period. It is constructed with a wall-stone facing of Yorkshire parpoints and brick lining with cavity, the piers, arches and ashlar dressings to the windows, doors etc being of Ringby stone. The plan consists of a nave with two short aisles, which occupy the position of transepts, chancel and vestries,  the length of the nave and chancel together being 114 feet. The font, which is of Hollington stone, is the gift of the Rev and Mrs Remington. It has been executed by Messrs J Bonehill and Sons of Manchester. The pulpit, of stained deal, is the gift of the vicar of Walmsley Church. The total cost of the church, which will accommodate 500 worshippers, will be about £4,000. Mr Henry C Charlewood of Manchester is the architect. [Manchester Guardian 25 July 1885 page 9]
