THE NEW CHURCH OF ST. PAUL, SALE - On Saturday afternoon, the foundation stone of a church which will be dedicated to St. Paul Sale, was laid by Mrs W. C. Brooks. The church is being built in Springfield. at the east end of Sibson Road. and when completed will be constituted a parish church, having assigned to it the whole of that portion of Sale which lies to the westward of the canal. The style of architecture is early English and the material used will be brick with Yorkshire stone facings, and Hollington stone dressings. The plans show a nave of 89 feet in length, and 30 feet wide. and two aisles 89 feet by 12 feet. There will be a spacious organ chamber on the south side of the chancel, and clergy and choir vestries on the north side, near to the parsonage. The chancel, which will be lighted by five large traceried windows, will be 34 feet long, and 22 feet wide. and have a tiled floor. The spire, which will rise to height of 130 feet above the street level. is shown at the south west corner of the building, where will also be the principal entrance. It has been found inadvisable to carry out the architect’s plans in their entirety, and the completion of the spire will be deferred until the requisite funds are obtained.  The nave arcade will be supported on polished Peterhead granite columns, with Yorkshire stone dressing caps and bases. The font (at the west end of the church) will be fixed upon a raised platform and base. The whole of the seats and other joiner's work will be executed in pitch pine.  Stained and varnished. The church will accommodate over 700 persons. and will have a special extra exit, and the interior will be protected from draughts by vestibules and double-swinged doors. The entire cost of the buildings, as at present arranged, is expected to be under £5,000. but about £4,000 more will be requited if the fabric is to be completed as it is desired to be Towards the total cost £4,000 have already been subscribed or promised, The Architect is Mr H R Price, of Cross Street, Manchester. and the contractor, Mr James Herd, Ardwick. It is expected that the building will be completed and ready for opening in January next. Prior to the ceremony of laying the foundation stone a short service was held in the mission room, Friar’s Road.  where the services are at present. held, and which the new church will supersede.
