HINDLEY -On Monday the foundation stone of a new church was laid in the parish of Hindley, near Wigan. The building is to cost £4,000, and the purchase of land will take £1,200 more. In addition to this, the rector of Wigan has offered an endowment of £50 per year if the Committee will raise £1,000 for the same purpose. In all, therefore £7,00 is required, and this, with the exception of £170, has already been subscribed or guaranteed. The building will contain accommodation for 700 persons. -Liverpool Courier. On Monday the Bishop of Chester consecrated a new church, dedicated to St Peter, at Hindley, a populous township about three miles from Wigan. The patrons have presented the living to the Rev Peter Jones, who was incumbent of the parish church of Hindley at the time the foundation stone of the new church was laid in 1863, but then gave up his post because he was unable to declare his “unfeigned assent and consent to all and everything contained in the book of common prayer.” Since that time the terms of the subscription have been altered.
