Church of St Peter Inskip-with-Sowerby
LAYING THE FOUNDATION-STONE OF INSKIP CHURCH - The site of the intended edifice is an elevated plot of land in Inskip, from which is obtained an extended panoramic view of the whole of the country as far as the fells of Bleasdale, Parlock, and Longridge, in which extensive district the new church will be a pleasing and prominent feature of the landscape. The design of the building has been furnished by Mr Gregan, architect, of Manchester. It is in the elegant early English style, with a neat belfry or tower at the west end. The church will have sittings for 300, and no pews are to be erected. The Rev. A. Sharples, the present curate of St. Michael's is to be the incumbent of the church. A Sunday school is also about to be erected contiguous to the church, and of a corresponding style of architecture. A plate, bearing the following inscription, was placed on the cavity of the lower stone: "The Foundation Stone of this Church, dedicated to St. Peter, was laid by the Rev. William Hornby, M.A., Vicar of St. Michael's upon Wyre, on the 10th day of June, A.D. 1847, in the 11th year of the reign of Queen Victorla. J. Gregan, Esq, architect."
