LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONE OF A NEW CHURCH AT BLACKLEY – On Monday last, the foundation stone of a new church at Blackley, in the parish of Manchester, was laid in the presence of a vast concourse of spectators by John Taylor Esq of Hamer Hall. The intended edifice, we understand, is to contain 864 sittings of which 450 are to be free. It is designed in the Early English style of architecture, with a tower nearly 90 feet high placed at the western end, and the exterior is to be built wholly of stone. The architect is our townsman, E H Shellard Esq. [Manchester Guardian 4 May 1844 page 4/5]
