CONSECRATION OF NEW CHURCH AT HARPURHEY - The new church in Conran Street, Harpurhey, dedicated to St Stephen was consecrated yesterday by the Bishop of Manchester. The consecration service was attended by a large congregation. The new church will seat about 500. It has been erected at a cost of about £5,500 by Sir W H Houldsworth Bart. MP and Mr John Railton from plans by Mr R B Preston, architect. There is a convenient school-room attached. For some time the services have been conducted by the Rector (Rev A S Hicks) in a mission-room. [Manchester Guardian Thursday 10 October 1901 Page 11]
