 NEW CHURCH SCHEME AT BLACKBURN. LAYING THE FOUNDATION-STONE - In connection with the mission of St Stephen's, Little Harwood, Blackburn, established for upwards of 21 years, the foundation stone of a new church was laid on Saturday. The site of the building is adjoining the present schools, and the contract is let for £5,540, the erection being in the hands of Messrs J. Boland and Son, Blackburn, the architects are Messrs Cheers and Smith, Blackburn. Sir W. Harry Hornby Bart M.P. formally laid the stone of the new church " in the name of St. Stephen's," and Archdeacon Fletcher offered the dedicatory payers.  A site was secured for day and Sunday schools in 1884. he corner-stone of the first portion the building was laid by Sir Harry on August 1, 1885, and he also laid the foundation of the infant school on 26 May 1904. The new Church of St Stephen's Little Harwood, Blackburn, the foundation stone of which was laid two years ago by Sir W. H. Hornby, Bart.. M.P. was opened on Saturday afternoon by the Rev. J. H. Wolfenden, Vicar of St Michael's, Blackburn. The cost of the erection and furnishing of the church, is £5,540. [Manchester Courier - Monday 24 February 1908 page 8 

The west end has a big window of five stepped lancets beneath a super arch. Clerestory has closely spaced lancets and east window with tracery in free gothic style. Arcades with alternately and octagonal and circular polished granite columns with foliated caps. Good early c20 E window by Shrigley and Hunt.
