Church of St Thomas London Road Norbury Hazel Grove. Cheshire
ST THOMAS'S CHURCH NORBURY - The township of Norbury on Monday Last presented an animated scene, that being the day appointed for laying the foundation stone of a new church to be erected by the voluntary subscription of the gentlemen of the neighbourhood, aided by a grant from his Majesty's Commission for building churches, on a plot of land nearly opposite the Rising Sun Inn. This church is intended to accommodate one thousand persons, half of the sittings being free. It is to be built of stone, in the gothic style, under the superintendence of Mr Foster, from the design of Mr Hayley, of the firm Hayley and Brown, architects of this town. The interior will be in strict accordance with the chasteness and simplicity of the exterior. [Manchester Times 18 May 1833 page 2].
