The building was to be erected on a site between Westinghouse Road and the Bridgewater Canal and provide storage for 50,000 bales of cotton.

MANCHESTER - A reinforced concrete warehouse divided into nine sections or “safes” is in course of erection in Trafford Park. The new warehouse is to be fitted with a complete sprinkler installation with double water supply. The cost of fire insurance will be reduced by Lloyds from the existing fireproof rate of 10/- per ,100 per annum to 2/-. The construction of the new building includes the following main features: hollow walls form a divisional protective space between each section, rendering the safes more secure against fire; the walls are built of brick but the roof, which is built of concrete, is carried upon reinforced stanchions which form part of the wall construction. The length of the section is 165 feet, the breadth 35 feet and the height 45 feet. The safes will be lighted with protected roof-lights supplemented with electric lamps with external wiring.
