Conservative Club, Lumb, Rossendale
OPENING OF A NEW CONSERVATIVE CLUB AT LUMB – For some years the conservatives of Lumb and Water, a rather long and straggling district at the head of the Whitewell Valley and lying contiguous to Newchurch-in-Rossendale, of which indeed it forms a part, speaking in a parochial sense, have sorely felt the want of convenient club premises; and on Saturday, thanks to the generosity of Mr James Bowness, of Scout House, Newchurch, who has built them an entirely new club-house near the National Schools, Lumb, this want was in the main duly met and remedied. The club premises were formally opened by Captain Patrick of Cloughfold on Saturday afternoon. The new building is erected on the site of the old club premises, from designs by Mr H Percival. Architect, of Newchurch; and in addition to spacious reading, conversation and billiard rooms, comprises a well-adapted house for the steward or keeper of the club.
