A NEW CONSERVATIVE CLUB AT ROYTON - The new Conservative Club, which has been erected almost immediately behind the Royton Town Hall at a cost of about £2000, has just been opened. The building was erected from the designs of Messrs Wild Collins and Wild, architects, of Oldham. There are two storeys with a large room at the top, capable of holding 800 persons. On the ground floor there is a billiard room containing two tables, also a news room and rooms for games other than billiards. [Builder 2 May 1896 Page 387]

OLDHAM CONSERVATIVE ORGANISATION, GRAND NEW CLUB FOR ST. PETER'S WARD  -The Conservatives at the west side of St. Poter’s Ward have for a long time been cabined and confined in the George Street premises and some ago steps were taken to provide premises which would be both adequate and convenient, with the result that the members of the club are now in possession of a handsome and commodious building in Cromwell Street, erected from the designs of Messrs, Wild, Collins, and Wild, architects, Clegg Street. It is a two-storey structure, and the elevation is faced with local bricks, with stone and terra-cotta dressings. The premises are approached by an entrance hall from Cromwell Street, and on the ground floor are a billiard-room for two tables, a conversation and committee-rooms, a reading room, bar, and secretary’s office. On the upper floor, approached by a commodious staircase, is a large assembly hall, to which there is a separate staircase to the platform for speakers and artistes, The premises are heated with hot water, and there are also a heating cellar and a spirit and beer cellar. The builders are Messrs, J. and D. Blunn, and the heating apparatus has been supplied by Mr. W, Spencer, and the lighting by Messrs, J. Stott and Sons. The total cost is about £1,000. The opening ceremony was performed on Saturday afternoon by Mr. J. Travis Travis-Clegg. [Ashton Standard - Saturday 20 February 1897 page 10]
