Cottage for the Mack Partition Company, Letchworth

This two-storey cottage was designed for the 1905 Letchworth Cheap Cottages Exhibition and was built entirely of Mack partition slabs, giving better insulation and cheaper upkeep costs to more traditional materials. The downstairs accommodation consisted of a parlour as well as a living room. The total cost was £150. It survives today on Nevells Road (originally called Exhibition Road), two doors down from a Parker and Unwin building called The Settlement (originally the Skittles Inn). [Richard Fletcher]
