THE MILNROW NEW MILL – The new mill being erected at Milnrow for the Lowfield Spinning Company is nearly ready for being roofed in. It is only one storey high, and will contain about 35,000 spindles. [Preston Herald 5 December 1900 page 4]
Construction proceeded during the early part of 1901 but by the end of the year the original company was in voluntary liquidation. The mill was sold in April 1902 and in 1922 it was reported that it had 33,340 mule spindles and 1,152 doubling spindles engaged in producing course yarns of 8’s to 24’s count. [Manchester Guardian 3 January 1922 page 9]. However, by 1934 it was again in financial difficulties and in 1936 again entered into voluntary liquidation.
