NEW COTTON MILL IN FRANCE - Mr. James Parkinson writes from Vincey. Vosges. France to the Bolton Evening News as follows: The engines belonging to the Societé Cotonniere de l'Est were successfully started last Friday by M. Badin. the president the company. The mill is situated at Vincey, Vosges, France. It is a fine structure, being built after the style of most of Lancashire mills and is to contain 60,000 spindles Messrs. Potts and Co of Oldham and Manchester. are the architects. The mill has been promoted by both English and French capitalists, many of whom came to witness the start. There was, no christening ceremony, as in the case in most of our Lancashire mills on these occasions. The engines. which were made by Messrs Hick, Hargreaves, and Company of Bolton, went off in a very satisfactory manner, running fully an hour without a hitch. The Company afterwards adjourned for dinner, where speeches, toasts, etc, followed in quick succession. After dinner the guests paid another visit to the mill to inspect the progress of the setting up of the machinery, which has been made by the well-known firm or Messrs Platt Brothers and Company Limited, Oldham. The whole of the visitors seemed to be highly satisfied at the progress the mill is making. The shafting been supplied by Messrs. Hick. Hargreaves and Company, Bolton; the steam pipes by Messrs. Dawson. of Stalybridge: the card clothing by Messrs Horsfall and Bickham. Pendleton; the sprinklers by Messrs. Dowson and Taylor, Bolton; and the hoists by Messrs Barker, Oldham.
