MILL EXTENSION IN FRANCE. Operations have commenced for the erection of a large cotton mill, to contain 80,000 mule spindles and preparation machinery, for La Societé Contonniéré d'Hellemmes, at Hellemmes, Lille, France. The mill is to be built according to plans and specifications prepared by Messrs Potts, Son and Pickup, mill architects, Manchester, and the general contractors are M Tachupp and Brueder, Epinal, Vosges. The engines are to be made by M. Dujardin of Cie, Lille, and the boilers by Messrs Galloway Limited. Messrs Dobson and Barlow Limited, Bolton, have secured the order for the whole of the machinery. Electric lighting has been adopted, and will be supplied by Mr F Henrion, Nancy, France. The sprinklers and all the heating apparatus have been entrusted to Messrs Dowson and Taylor. Power will be transferred from the engine to the various rooms by ropes made and supplied by Mr Thomas Hart, of Blackburn. [Cotton Factory Times 18 May 1894 page 1]

Two mills have been erected for the Societe Cotonnidre d' Hellemmes, Lille. One of these mills has been at work two or three years, but the other, which is at right angles to it, is only now being erected. A cotton warehouse is placed in the space between the two mills, this being one-storeyed. The mills are arranged for spinning 50's twist and 60's weft. It will be noticed that each is constructed with the window which has been illustrated, and so far as the fabric is concerned, it is of the steel and concrete floor type. The whole of the machinery for both mills has been provided by Messrs. Dobson and Barlow, Limited. It consists of the usual series of machines for spinning these counts, but does not contain any combing. [Recent Cotton Mill Construction and Engineering page 122-124]
